Peter Tchaikovsky's only violin concerto is today one of the best known works of the Romantic repertoire, although it was initially considered unplayable. It was not until Adolf Brodsky dared to give the premiere in Vienna in 1881, whereupon the composer dedicated the concerto to him. The music combines thrilling sounds and emotional depth and demands excellent skill on the instrument.
