Alexander Krichel is one of today's most sophisticated pianists, according to broadcaster NDR Kultur. For in him, "intellect and emotion, head and heart, meet." Our "Artist in Residence" thus reveals a soul mate with Johannes Brahms. Like no other composer before him, he strove in his piano concertos for the ideal fusion of pianist and orchestra, for the perfect synthesis of concertante and symphonic elements. He achieved this impressively in his Second Piano Concerto. Initially, the piano and orchestra are finely balanced against each other, then the music becomes more energetic and the symphonic structure more visible. In the Andante, Brahms introduces a second solo instrument, the cello, and pushes the pianist into the background. The music flows song-like and melodic, is enlivened by the piano, and the delicate instrumentation lends it a chamber music charm.
