Phaedra is an ancient legend that speaks right into our time, when it shamelessly lustfully and with raw brutality depicts desire and the power of love. Phaedra falls in love with her stepson Hippolytus and is filled with an all-consuming desire. When Phaedra's husband suddenly collapses and goes into a coma, nothing can stop her anymore. Inevitably, the fateful wheel set in motion by the goddess of love Aphrodite rolls. Aarhus Theatre's Phaedra  stands on the shoulders of the mythical fabric that Euripides, Seneca and Racine, among others, have previously re-written. At the same time, it is part of a cultural trend where the desire of the middle-aged woman exists as an independent and dominant force. This can be seen, for example, in films such as Dronningen  from 2019 with Trine Dyrholm and Babygirl with Nicole Kidman from 2024.
