The Ohio State University School of Music invites oboists and bassoonists in grades 8–12 with at least one full year of playing experience on their instrument to join us for Double Reed Workshop 2026. The day's activities include ensemble playing, special topics and masterclasses to help students enhance their playing to reach the next level.

We invite high school and college trombonists — as well as professionals and adult hobbyists/non-students — to join us for an exciting day of performances, masterclasses, and collaboration with the Ohio State Trombone studio, faculty, and guest artist Vladislav Petrachev, newly-appointed principal trombonist of the Columbus Symphony.

The Ohio State Cello Studio and CellOhio welcomes cellist Gregory Sauer, Florida State University cello professor, who will present a concert and master class. Both events are free and open to the public.

The Ohio State Chorale with Wind Symphony features the new edition (wind band and choir) of A Silence Haunts Me by Jake Runestad. The text of this piece describes the psychological angst that Beethoven must have felt knowing he was going deaf. Russel C. Mikkelson, Wind Symphony conductor; Robert J. Undergraduate Audition Day

This session will be part presentation and part panel discussion with two of Booker’s interlocutors, Cornish-American musician Marion Howard and Cornish musician Richard Trethewey. The presentation will focus on ethnographic research on a transatlantic and transnational folk and traditional music tradition I am calling “Cornish cousin music.” That research was focused on communities in two places where this music has taken root, the Great Lakes region in North America and Cornwall in southwest Britain. Their shared musical tradition relies on interpersonal experiences, a history of emigration, and a dynamic musical embodiment of a shared historical present with recourse to the future.

Lectures in Music Studies: Nicholas Booker with M. P. Howard and R. Trethewey

Karl Wohlwend will present a program of solo guitar music, exploring works that focus on texture and tone color. Composers featured on this program include Manuel Ponce, Leo Brouwer, Alan Mearns, Stephen Goss, and Arnaud Dumond. The program will also include selections of Wohlwend's Primary Studies for Guitar.

Chorale and MGC at Dublin Presbyterian Church (5775 Dublinshire Dr, Dublin, OH). Featured Chorale songs are “How Lovely is Your Dwelling Place” from A German Requiem by Johannes Brahms, Alleluia by Elaine Hagenberg. and Over the Rainbow by Harold Arlen in a wonderful arrangement by Mark Hayes. MGC will feature a traditional Swahili/Kenyan song arranged by William McKee, and a spiritual (I Can’t Tarry) written by David Morrow. The spiritual features Greg Smith, a voice major at Ohio State.

Dublin Presbyterian Church

Ryan Behan, associate professor of Piano and director of Keyboard Studies at the University of Indianapolis, has performed throughout the US, in Europe and China, with radio broadcasts on ORF (Austria), BBC, and NPR. Performance highlights include appearing as concerto soloist with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, recital appearances with the Indianapolis Quartet, and with sopranos Sumi Jo at the Mozarteum and Jolana Slavíková at the Salzburg Festival; in May 2026 he will perform Franz Liszt’s Années de pèlerinage: Italie at the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Academy in Hungary.

The oboe and bassoon studios present a recital. Abby Yeakle Held (oboe) and Jesse Schartz (bassoon), double reed studio directors. This event is free and open to the public. No ticket required.
