Love accompanies us in many forms: friendly, as with Joseph Haydn and Rebecca Schroeter, to whom he dedicated three of his piano trios; romantic, as with Dmitri Shostakovich, who composed his first piano trio for Tatiana Glivenko; and yearning, as with Johannes Brahms, who is said to have processed his feelings for Clara Schumann in his third piano quartet – perhaps you can hear the “Clara motif”?
