Alice is celebrating her birthday. Suddenly, the real world disappears, and Alice leaves the here and now behind. Kidnapped by a harried white rabbit, she plunges into a strange world, a fantastical one. Here, everything is upside down. Alice grows so tall that she can no longer fit through any door; then she shrinks so small that she can't reach any doorknob. Transformed, she enters Wonderland, encounters a smoking caterpillar, and swims through a sea of ​​tears. She meets the Cheshire Cat, which bears no resemblance to a purring pet. By the age of 20, he was considered Italy's most sought-after opera composer; by his 22nd birthday, he had written 13 operas and was known far beyond Italy's borders. Enjoy a festive concert featuring works by the Baroque master Georg Philipp Telemann. The centerpiece is the dramma per musica "Ich sonst beglücktes Land" (I, otherwise blessed land), an occasional piece from 1711, which was only recently rediscovered and has now been researched and published for the first time by students at the Martin Luther University of Halle-Wittenberg. The program also includes works from the same period of the composer's life at the beginning of the 18th century: the colorful Overture Suite in D major with its magnificent trumpet sounds, the virtuosic Concerto in D major for two violins, and the solemn Magnificat in C major. A quirky comedy of oversized egos in a dysfunctional first family brought the 24-year-old Handel his breakthrough in the Italian opera scene, and thus in the world. Sparkling melodies and hair-raising turf wars made him "everybody's darling" in the "Las Vegas" of the 18th century – Venice was then Europe's number one entertainment capital. His nickname "Il caro Sassone – Our dear Saxon" came about with "Agrippina." “In every second without music, clapping and shouts of ‘Viva il caro Sassone – Long live the dear Saxon!’ and other expressions of applause, too exaggerated to quote here, shook the theater,” reported John Mainwaring. “Everyone was astonished by the grandeur and sublimity of his style, for until then no one here had heard anything remotely resembling such powerful harmonies and such dense modulations, combined in such a magical way.”

Andreas Beinhauer takes on the role of the witty bird seller, who guides the audience through Mozart's most famous opera in this version. In Foyer 2 of the opera house, the children are right in the thick of the action and are drawn into the performance by Papageno – whether as a tree or a snake, forest animals, or Papagena and Papageno's children. It's a vibrant and colorful spectacle, musically superb. A wonderful opportunity for preschool children to experience musical theatre for the first time.

In Italy, a whole new world opened up to Handel and the Te Deum by Francesco Antonio Urio was part of it. Urio’s compositions enthused the young man from Halle so much that he drew inspiration from them for several of his own works. For example, he borrowed sections from the Te Deum for his oratorio, Saul. Baroque legend Reinhard Goebel, together with the MDR Radio Choir and Staatskapelle Halle, gives us another opportunity to hear this profound piece of music.

A sunrise in the mountains, a strenuous climb, then the coolness of the forest and the sound of the waterfall. Lush mountain meadows and the ringing of cowbells, finally an approaching thunderstorm, lightning and thunder and a narrow survival at the dangerous height. What, if not a symphony orchestra, could depict this intoxication of colors and sounds? And who, if not Richard Strauss, could paint this sound painting? The Alpine Symphony features over 100 musicians, including wind machines, thunder sheets and cowbells. But Strauss depicts his mountain world with great sensitivity, creating new timbres in very different ensembles. Italy has always been a place of longing. For centuries, the country and its ancient cultural treasures have served as a source of inspiration for poets and thinkers. Artists and composers - mostly young men from good families - traditionally set off for the south in their youth and brought home groundbreaking ideas that constantly renewed local art. Georg Friedrich Handel's cantata "Il Delirio amoroso" was written at the beginning of his study trip in Rome in 1707, but the 22-year-old could not get enough of Italy - his trip lasted an incredible four years! Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy stopped off in the same cities more than a century later: Venice, Florence, Rome and Naples, among others, inspired him to write his "Italian" symphony. It exudes a light, southern charm and conjures up images of his journey.

Works whose creators themselves did not think would one day be world famous: Johannes Brahms, a pianist by training, had already premiered his first piano concerto and the music world was eagerly awaiting a violin concerto by the 45-year-old.
