The celebrated star singer Sylva Varescu and the construction magnate's son Edwin are a couple who shouldn't be together. Their class prejudices, societal expectations, and fear of scandal are too great. But amidst grand staircases, waltzes, and champagne-fueled revelry, a dance on the edge of a volcano begins: full of joie de vivre, contradictions, and melancholy.
