Staatskapelle Halle

The Staatskapelle Halle's StudiLab is entering its second round. Together with students from Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg (MLU), concert concepts are being developed on the theme of "Miracles." Do miracles (still) exist? Who marvels? What constitutes a miracle? On the final evening, four groups of students will present their ideas, framed by chamber music performances. A jury, composed of representatives from the arts, culture, and politics, as well as members of the audience that evening, will decide on the winning project, which will be implemented during the 2026/27 anniversary season. Be there when concert planning becomes a democratic decision. Perhaps you'll even witness a miracle…

Together with the Halle State Orchestra, we'll explore one of the greatest feelings of all: love. But what exactly is love? A flutter in your stomach? Deep affection for loved ones? Or perhaps simply a warm smile?

Love accompanies us in many forms: friendly, as with Joseph Haydn and Rebecca Schroeter, to whom he dedicated three of his piano trios; romantic, as with Dmitri Shostakovich, who composed his first piano trio for Tatiana Glivenko; and yearning, as with Johannes Brahms, who is said to have processed his feelings for Clara Schumann in his third piano quartet – perhaps you can hear the “Clara motif”?

Orpheus and Eurydice agree: their marriage is over. While he is only interested in his music, she seeks adventure – and promptly ends up in the arms of Pluto, the god of the underworld. He seizes the opportunity and whisks her away to the realm of the dead.

Borisav Stanković's novel "Impure Blood" is one of the most important works of Serbian literature – yet it remains largely unknown in German-speaking countries. This impressive new production brings the powerful drama to the stage and makes it accessible to a new audience.

Andreas Beinhauer takes on the role of the witty bird seller, who guides the audience through Mozart's most famous opera in this version. In Foyer 2 of the opera house, the children are right in the thick of the action and are drawn into the performance by Papageno – whether as a tree or a snake, forest animals, or Papagena and Papageno's children. It's a vibrant and colorful spectacle, musically superb. A wonderful opportunity for preschool children to experience musical theatre for the first time.

An evening entirely dedicated to Dadaism – which questions everything and declares the absurd to be truth. The young musicians present extraordinary chamber music works by Erik Satie, Amalia Hunt, Hanns Eisler, and others, interspersed with Dadaist poems – cheeky, sonorous, and with subversive lightness, recited by Axel Thielmann (MDR).

Opera Café

A quirky comedy of oversized egos in a dysfunctional first family brought the 24-year-old Handel his breakthrough in the Italian opera scene, and thus in the world. Sparkling melodies and hair-raising turf wars made him "everybody's darling" in the "Las Vegas" of the 18th century – Venice was then Europe's number one entertainment capital. His nickname "Il caro Sassone – Our dear Saxon" came about with "Agrippina." “In every second without music, clapping and shouts of ‘Viva il caro Sassone – Long live the dear Saxon!’ and other expressions of applause, too exaggerated to quote here, shook the theater,” reported John Mainwaring. “Everyone was astonished by the grandeur and sublimity of his style, for until then no one here had heard anything remotely resembling such powerful harmonies and such dense modulations, combined in such a magical way.”

An evening between eras, styles and masterpieces: Conductor Howard Arman, well known to the Halle audience through the reorganization of the Handel Festival Orchestra in 1993 and celebrated guest of the Staatskapelle – most recently in the New Year's Eve concert in 2023 – leads through a sonic journey of a special kind.
