At Bellevue Palace, soprano Margrethe Fredheim bids farewell to winter and welcomes spring with Richard Strauss's Four Last Songs , accompanied by Peter Schedding on the piano. Shostakovich combined a song cycle with a piano trio for his Seven Romances , creating highly dramatic visions and apocalyptic nightmares. But in the music , as the title of the last song suggests, the lyrical self finds solace – a comforting prospect!
