Igor Levit performs Brahms's First Piano Concerto – a work strongly influenced by Brahms’s relationship with Clara Schumann. Personal elements are also expressed in the Enigma Variations, where Edward Elgar draws musical portraits of his friends. The concert combines two works in which composers immortalize their surroundings in music – wild and passionate with Brahms, enigmatic and ironic with Elgar.
