How does a child react when their mother no longer finds life worth living? They write a list of everything that's great in the world and hope their mother reads it: 1. Ice cream, 2. Water fights, 3. Staying up later than usual and watching TV, 4. The color yellow. And while the child writes, hoping their mother's depression will end and everything will get better, they grow into a young person who studies, falls in love, gets married, and gets divorced: a person who lives a life with all its ups and downs, always finding a reason to add to the list. Over time, the list grows into a life document that soon contains a million entries.

When a pilot is forced to make an emergency landing in the middle of the Sahara, he is astonished to find a little prince approaching him and asking him to draw a sheep. It quickly becomes clear that the little prince comes from a distant planet. He left after a quarrel with a rose and has been traveling through space ever since. He meets all sorts of inhabitants of other planets and learns about their longings, but feels like a stranger everywhere he goes. After a touching encounter with a fox who reveals a secret to him, it is time for the little prince to return home: to his planet with its three volcanoes and the rose he loves.

Who doesn't know him, the impoverished country gentleman tilting at windmills? Don Quixote, who suffers so much from reality that he escapes into the world of his beloved chivalric romances and loses himself in this dream world. Equipped with his imagination as armor, his chivalric ideals as weapons, and his faithful squire Sancho Panza at his side, Don Quixote embarks on unknown adventures. He fights against imaginary enemies and illusions, but at his core, always for his true ideals. He is constantly searching for his equally imagined great love, Dulcinea, an ideal he projects onto all women. He actually helps the young Kitri escape a forced marriage and marry her true love. He survives all his adventures unscathed—until, at the end of his journey, he encounters his own reflection and recognizes his self-deception.

A family of field mice lives in an old stone wall in the middle of a beautiful meadow. With winter approaching, the little mice are busily gathering various delicacies for their pantry. They work day and night – all of them except Frederick. Instead of scampering nimbly from one nut to the next like the others, he seems to just sit around. Frederick collects astonishing things, things that at first glance can't fill hungry mouse stomachs, but are nevertheless vital for survival.

Since 2008, the Detmold State Theatre and local churches have been engaging in dialogue, inviting the public to a Sunday exchange of ideas. Together, we grapple with fundamental questions of conscience and faith. Themes and aspects from current productions in our repertoire are explored and examined from a theological perspective. The Detmold State Theatre collaborates with the Lippe Regional Church, the Evangelical Reformed Churches of Detmold-East and Detmold-West, and the Catholic Church of the Holy Cross.

Village judge Adam finds himself in a predicament: the case of a broken jug is brought before him. The plaintiff, Marthe Rull, accuses Ruprecht, her daughter Eve's fiancé, of forcibly entering Eve's room and breaking the offending vessel. Ruprecht, in turn, claims to have caught a stranger red-handed, who escaped undetected by jumping out of the window. What no one suspects at first, however, is that the culprit is none other than Village Judge Adam himself. He had been harassing Eve the previous evening, was surprised by Ruprecht, and knocked over the fateful jug in his flight. What to do? Although Adam becomes increasingly entangled in his web of lies as the trial progresses, he brazenly tries to shift the blame onto himself until the very end…

Georges and Albin have been a couple for decades. Georges runs the drag club "La Cage aux Folles," where Albin, as the dazzling drag queen Zaza, enchants audiences night after night. Together, they raised Georges' son, Jean-Michel. Now he wants to marry Anne, the daughter of an arch-conservative politician who has the closure of all clubs on his agenda! The two families are to meet at a dinner party. Fun and disaster are guaranteed when different lifestyles and emotional worlds collide. And, let's just say this: both families have their secrets and quirks. The themes of "love," "tolerance," and "acceptance" are as relevant today as they were at the Broadway premiere forty years ago, because we still don't live in a world where everyone can be whoever and however they want to be.

Fourteen-year-old Jonas has had enough: One day, he suddenly stops eating. His grandmother, parents, and sister Billie are worried and try to figure out the reasons for his refusal. Is he having problems at school? Is Jonas trying to express his protest by refusing food? But against what? Is he rebelling against his family, society, against everything? It's hard to say, because at the same time as his food strike, Jonas also refuses all communication. While his parents try unsuccessfully to deal with their headstrong son, his sister turns him into a social media star and portrays him as a martyr of a global protest movement. But what would Jonas say if he weren't so silent?

Since their first publication by the psychiatrist and children's author Heinrich Hoffmann in 1845, these tales, intended to instill morality and "decent" behavior in boys and girls, have lost none of their gruesome fascination.

Prince Tamino no longer wants to be a prince. However, when he falls in love with the portrait of Pamina, the daughter of the Queen of the Night, he is ready for any heroic deed. First, he is to free Pamina from Sarastro's clutches for the Queen, and then, once in Sarastro's realm, he must face life-threatening trials for him. At his side are the free-spirited Papageno and a magic flute. In the end, Tamino and Pamina are reunited, and Papageno is no longer alone – a happy ending? "The Magic Flute" is a beautiful parable about growing up, told in dreamlike images by director Dirk Schmeding for young and old alike.
