Cana 's dissertation, "Botanical Musicalities: Listening with Plant-Human Encounter," gathers case studies from the 19th century to the present where plants become engaged listeners, musical instruments, and performance partners. She argues that working with plants in musical contexts reframes what it means to listen across categories of difference, and shows some of the generative work that making music can do amid ongoing environmental crisis.
