Aliceheimer’s: a Chamber Opera, a moving work based on Dana Mashoian Walrath’s graphic memoir (featuring music by composer Erik Nielsen), will be presented at this year’s annual Conference of the Graphic Medicine International Collective. The performance will feature graduates and faculty from The Peabody Institute: opera coach Gloria Yin & Sophia Sorrentino (MM ’25, Voice).

This concert commemorates the 50th anniversary of the first professional solo recital of retired Historical Performance department chair, Mark Cudek (MM, ’82). He will perform solo and ensemble music for cittern and bass viol (viola da gamba) on a program exploring the music, politics, and substance abuse of 17th-century England and France, in addition to improvisations from Italy and Spain. The program also features William Simms (MM ’91, Guitar), baritone Michael Manganiello (MM ’21, Vocal Performance and Pedagogy), and soprano Mara Yaffee (MM ’19, Historical Performance Voice). The concert is free and open to the public with donations gratefully accepted for the musicians. There will be a wine and cheese reception following.
