he UK premiere of a unique musical endeavour, Chopin Residue – a multidisciplinary project that explores the physical and conceptual boundaries of sound through a carefully controlled process of mechanical deconstruction.

The project begins with the reinterpretation of selected compositions by Fryderyk Chopin, which are transformed into experimental audio pieces emphasising texture, fragmentation, and abstraction.

Sonically, Chopin Residue navigates a landscape between experimental electronic music, ambient guitar work, free improvisation, and post-jazz sensibilities.

A world-class pianist and bold musical explorer, Możdżer has developed his own distinctive style – one built on impression, atmosphere, and a uniquely original performing language. His refined artistic vision, blending diverse musical influences, has made him the leading figure of a new generation of jazz artists in Poland. Today, he remains one of the country’s most celebrated and popular jazz musicians.

Plus Duke Ellington at Newport – his live album that captured the jazz highlight of the year when his orchestra made a dramatic comeback with a stunning performance that featured the extraordinary Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue.

But why is it considered to be a masterpiece? Here to answer that question (and more) are presenter Leah Broad, Vasily Petrenko (conducting the RPO for the first time at Cadogan Hall) and the full Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with an entertaining guide to what makes Mozart tick. They’ll take the Symphony apart and show you how it works. And then they’ll put it back together, concluding the evening with a full performance.

Celebrating a career that spans six decades, the show features classic Moody Blues hits – including ‘Nights in White Satin’, ‘Tuesday Afternoon’, ‘Question’ and ‘The Voice’ – alongside highlights from Justin’s rich solo catalogue, from ‘Forever Autumn’ to more recent releases.

The Soviet authorities wanted Shostakovich’s Ninth Symphony to be a blockbuster epic, but instead they got a sardonic showstopper with a wicked sense of humour – music that entertains even while it subverts. No wonder they banned it!

Beethoven’s Violin Concerto begins with a drum solo and a hymn from the woodwinds – it’s only later that it lays bare the poetic, singing soul of the violin. And Dobrinka Tabakova – a British composer with a knack for telling stories – takes her inspiration from bees, in a sparky, Ivor Novello Award-winning celebration of life.
