While America’s journey into space began in 1961 and culminated with the Moon landing in 1969, Gustav Holst embarked on his own exploration of the cosmos decades earlier. Beginning in 1914, Holst composed The Planets, a seven-movement orchestral suite featuring Mars, Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune, with each movement reflecting the planet’s unique astrological character.
