Just days before John Coltrane would have turned 100, his son, saxophonist Ravi Coltrane, presents a blazing young band to mark the milestone. Ravi, 60, spent the first quarter-century of his career acquiring a diverse array of experience and honing his own lustrous, harmonically slippery compositions. But in recent years he’s taken up the family mantle with a variety of projects and initiatives on and off the bandstand, championing the legacy of both his parents, John and Alice Coltrane.
