Georg Wilhelm Pabst is one of the most successful directors of the Weimar Republic. He is called a "master of editing" or, because of his political films, "the Red Pabst." When he emigrates to America in the early 1930s, however, the fame he earned in the Weimar Republic does him little good. Again and again he is confused with better-known colleagues. Warner Brothers does offer him a film, but it flops at the box office and with the critics. And...
