Susanna Mälkki Conducts Haydn, Strauss, and Unsuk Chin

Susanna Mälkki conducts Strauss’s<em> Also sprach Zarathustra,</em> from its iconic opening fanfare to its concluding chord evoking the mystery of the universe, and Haydn’s <em>Philosopher </em>Symphony, with some of his most original music. Also on the program: <em>Šu,</em> with sheng virtuoso Wu Wei as soloist; the composer, our Marie-Josée Kravis Prize winner Unsuk Chin, associates the instrument with “yearning for a distant sound.”
