The Western Front: Christmas 1914. Out of the violence of World War I, a silence, then a song. A German soldier steps into No Man’s Land singing “Stille Nacht.” Thus begins an extraordinary night of camaraderie, music, and peace. Defying orders to charge across the barbed wire and trenches into the face of machine gun fire, soldiers on both sides come together in a truce to trade and sing, finding a moment of peace in the midst of terrible war.
