Musical inspiration can begin anywhere and continues across the boundaries of time. The Horszowski Trio commissioned a group of American composers from various generations to write short pieces inspired by the music of Robert Schumann, a project called “Fantasiestücke.” After Paul Chihara completed a piece for us, he decided to surprise us with the gift of a longer version of the work. On this program we present the WORLD PREMIERE of this longer-form trio. We are deeply inspired by the music of Robert Schumann, and we recorded his complete piano trios three years ago. He composed his first piano trio which is inspired by his wife, Clara, who wrote her own trio one year earlier. The seed of inspiration continues into our own time and into the music of Mr. Chihara!
