Ivy Ringel is principal bassoon of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and adjunct lecturer in bassoon at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. Prior to her time in Indianapolis, Ringel served as principal bassoon of the Atlanta Opera and the Des Moines Metro Opera. She has performed as guest principal bassoon with the Atlanta Symphony and performs regularly with such orchestras as the Houston Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony, Rochester Philharmonic, Louisiana Philharmonic, and the Jacksonville Symphony. Ringel has held teaching positions at Butler University and Morehouse College and earned degrees from Rice University and the Eastman School of Music. Her primary bassoon teachers include Benjamin Kamins, Michael Burns, John Hunt, and Charlie Bailey. When she is not playing the bassoon or making reeds, Ringel enjoys cooking, baking bread, traveling, live music, and hiking.
