Prokofiev’s Fifth Symphony, which pays tribute to the grandeur of the human spirit, closes a program of music shaped by World War II. Martinů’s symphonic poem remembers the Czechs killed during the destruction of their village by the Nazis in 1942. Israeli-American composer Shulamit Ran commemorates a pivotal ocean voyage of German Holocaust refugees in 1947.
