Dr. Joy-Leilani Garbutt, the co-founder of the Boulanger Initiative and a fervent advocate for gender equity in music, will lead the conversation. She will discuss the mission of the Boulanger Initiative, its efforts to enhance equity and representation in music, and how their ongoing research and advocacy projects are making diverse repertoire more accessible to students, performers, and teachers. The initiative focuses on advocating for women and gender-marginalized composers through various channels including performance, education, research, consulting, and commissions.

Dr. Garbutt's credentials include a Ph.D. in musicology, a Master of Education degree from The Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a Master of Music in organ performance from Northwestern University. She is also a Fulbright scholar who has conducted extensive research in France on early 20th-century French organ music by female composers.

This event is part of a series that includes Dr. Garbutt’s performance at the Church of Christ at Dartmouth College on April 5, as part of the Ives Recital Series.
