Join us at the Hartman Lounge, The Mansion, FDU, for an enchanting afternoon dedicated to the art of Italian Opera with "Opera Talk: The Marvelous Mezzos in Italian Opera." This captivating presentation, part of the 2023-2024 Opera Talk series, will take place on March 10, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM. 

Hosted by esteemed Opera Educator Lou Barrella, the event promises to immerse you in the world of Italian Opera, shining a spotlight on the mesmerizing performances of some of the world's most celebrated Mezzo-Sopranos. Discover the unique vocal range of the Mezzo-Soprano, which lies between the Soprano and Contralto, and explore its heavier, darker tone. Learn about the roles Mezzos play, often as secondary characters or formidable adversaries to their Soprano counterparts, and how they can sometimes steal the show both dramatically and vocally.

This special afternoon will also feature excerpts from legendary Mezzo characters in Italian Opera, with performances by icons such as Marilyn Horne, Shirley Verrett, Fiorenza Cossotto, and Giulietta Simionato.
