Get ready to laugh, reflect, and swoon as the Atlantic String Quartet ends the Recital Series with a night of clever contrasts and string-filled storytelling!

Recital 4 kicks off with Joseph Haydn’s “The Joke”, a witty masterpiece full of musical punchlines and unexpected pauses that’ll keep you on the edge of your seat (and maybe giggling under your breath). Then, journey into the heart of Eastern Europe with Borys Lyatoshynsky Suite on Ukrainian Themes—a rich tapestry of folk melodies and bold harmonies that sing with national pride. Finally, sink into the youthful lyricism of Franz Schubert’s String Quartet No. 4, a charming early gem that already hints at the emotional depth and elegance that made him a Romantic powerhouse.

The Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra presents Masterworks 4: Ode to Joy. The NSO takes the stage to present one of the most well-known works in all of classical music – Beethoven’s 9th Symphony. The orchestra, under the direction of Marc David, will be joined by four guest soloists and the Philharmonic Choir of the NSO for this masterpiece. The concert will also include the performance of Beethoven Unwound by our own Peter Gardner.
