Join us for an extraordinary opera experience with "A Prize for Every Player," a new and innovative opera adapted from the captivating short story by the acclaimed author A.M. Homes. In a unique collaboration with composer Aaron Siegel, this opera is set to transform a typical everything’ store into a live, interactive stage. Audiences will be immersed in the narrative as performers navigate the aisles, engaging in dialogue and performing emotional arias, all while real shoppers add an unpredictable element to the performance.

The story follows the Sanford family—Tom, Jane, and their two children, Billy and Tilda—during their routine Sunday shopping trip to the local big box store. What starts as a typical day filled with a family game of shopping challenges quickly unfolds into an adventure filled with surprises, touching on both the mundane and the profound, and culminating in an unexpected celebration that involves everyone present.

This opera not only promises to be a groundbreaking site-specific work but also a reflection on the everyday experiences that define our lives. The project was further developed during a residency at Princeton University in the spring of 2023, where Siegel and Homes, along with students, explored early prototypes and provided a proof-of-concept for this ambitious vision.
