Deep Dive

Take a look at background information about this event and its performers and creators.

The Grand Rapids Symphony writes:

In this concert dedicated to the two composers, we turn the spotlight on our own principal cello Alicia Eppinga as she tackles Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1—a testament to elegance, charm, and delicacy. We will complete the evening with Beethoven’s Second Symphony—composed less than a decade after the two masters met, playful and lyrical passages can be deceiving. As the composer experienced the first signs of deafness, something unsettling is always barely under the surface
