NY Phil Principal Clarinet Anthony McGill is the soloist in Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto, a showcase for the instrument’s expressive ability. Tchaikovsky’s Sixth Symphony stirs the soul with rich melodies and dramatic intensity. Rafael Payare conducts this concert, which begins with Sofia Gubaidulina’s tone poem inspired by Miloš Macourek’s The Little Piece of Chalk, an allegory of artistic perseverance.
