Justin Hawkins – founding member, singer, lead guitarist and frontman of The Darkness – arrived in the public’s consciousness along with his band’s debut album Permission To Land in 2003.

22 years and eight studio albums later, Justin brings his YouTube show Justin Hawkins Rides Again (JHRA) to Cadogan Hall. JHRA Live sees Justin dissect the very entrails of the music industry with all the insight of a man described by the gutter press as a “cat-suit wearing noughties rock legend”.

Tunic Live In Concert

The Purcell School Symphony Orchestra returns to Cadogan Hall with a romantic programme of big tunes and lush orchestration, inspired by the movies of the 1940s.

This year’s Purcell School Concerto Competition winner, Julia Majewska, is an exciting young violinist who brings passion and verve to the fireworks of the exquisite Korngold Violin Concerto.

Part of Howard Hanson’s Symphony from 1930 was John Williams’ template for E.T., and Doreen Carwithen was the first British woman to write consistently for Hollywood. Walton’s orchestral showpiece from the film The First of the Few completes the programme.

The Young Musicians Symphony Orchestra continues its season at Cadogan Hall with conductor James Blair in works by Chabrier, Sibelius and Elgar, opening the programme with España, the most renowned work of French composer Emmanuel Chabrier.

Dark, tense, packed with secret messages and featuring a hair-raising musical portrait of Stalin himself; what’s certain is that Shostakovich’s Tenth is one of the mightiest of 20th-century symphonies – one of those pieces that you simply have to hear live.

Critics have described the conductor Daniel Raiskin as “stunningly good”, so who better to probe Shostakovich’s secrets – and to partner the distinguished British violinist Jennifer Pike in Britain’s favourite romantic violin concerto?

Swinging at The Cotton Club returns to Cadogan Hall with its unique celebration of the dance and music of the iconic Cotton Club: New York’s celebrated nightclub of the 1920s.

Performances by Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong, Cab Calloway, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, and Fats Waller would have had the club swinging, whilst dancers such as Bojangles Robinson and the Nicholas Brothers lit up the stage with their breathtaking routines.

The world-famous Royal Philharmonic Orchestra performs four of the most celebrated and richly textured pieces in orchestral repertoire in the first of two Sunday afternoon concerts.

The celebratory outer movements of Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 21 in C embrace a glowing Andante forever associated with the romantic tragedy of the Swedish film Elvira Madigan.

Schubert’s Eighth Symphony is the best known of all his orchestral music, despite its famously – and mysteriously – unfinished state, in which darkly ominous yearning bursts into radiant optimism.

Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis perhaps defined Vaughan Williams’ musical personality. Applying to a Tudor theme an admixture of English folksong and translucent orchestral textures learnt in Paris, Vaughan Williams achieved alchemy; a century on, the Fantasia is an established classic, from luminous opening chords to ecstatic counterpoint.
