Having started her career in music in 1960, a remarkable 64 years of performing live, Elkie Brooks embarks upon her Long Farewell Tour.

A celebration of Elkie’s illustrious, award-winning career in music, performing some of her biggest hits including ‘Pearl’s A Singer’, ‘Lilac Wine’, ‘Fool (If You Think It’s Over)’, ‘Don’t Cry Out Loud’, and blues, rock and jazz as well as material from her eagerly anticipated new album. he UK premiere of a unique musical endeavour, Chopin Residue – a multidisciplinary project that explores the physical and conceptual boundaries of sound through a carefully controlled process of mechanical deconstruction.

The project begins with the reinterpretation of selected compositions by Fryderyk Chopin, which are transformed into experimental audio pieces emphasising texture, fragmentation, and abstraction.

Sonically, Chopin Residue navigates a landscape between experimental electronic music, ambient guitar work, free improvisation, and post-jazz sensibilities.

1956 was an excellent year for jazz with many fantastic albums released – in this concert we’ll be revisiting five of the very best – Ella Fitzgerald’s Cole Porter Songbook, Count Basie’s April in Paris and The Atomic Mr Basie, Frank Sinatra and Nelson Riddle’s magnificent Songs for Swinging Lovers.

Plus Duke Ellington at Newport – his live album that captured the jazz highlight of the year when his orchestra made a dramatic comeback with a stunning performance that featured the extraordinary Diminuendo and Crescendo in Blue.

We’re still not quite sure how he did it: creating a masterpiece so perfect that for more than two centuries, it has shared a name with the king of the gods. But why is it considered to be a masterpiece? Here to answer that question (and more) are presenter Leah Broad, Vasily Petrenko (conducting the RPO for the first time at Cadogan Hall) and the full Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, with an entertaining guide to what makes Mozart tick. They’ll take the Symphony apart and show you how it works. And then they’ll put it back together, concluding the evening with a full performance.
