In his first Philharmonic appearance in ten years, Michael Tilson Thomas conducts Beethoven’s <em>Eroica,</em> a work of revolutionary fervor and a powerful expression of defiance against tyranny. Gil Shaham brings out the love and heartbreak in Berg’s musical homage “to an angel.” Ruth Crawford Seeger’s extraordinary melodic tapestry opens the concert.
