Canadian Barbara Hannigan is an absolute world star! A unique figure who generously demonstrates her multi-talent as both conductor and singer in one and the same concert. This evening is no exception, when Richard Strauss' music-philosophical masterpiece of Zarathustra, a major work by Ligeti and a world premiere of Laura Bowler are on the program.

Elgar's legendary cello concerto requires a virtuoso – and such a virtuoso is Denmark's new cello star, Jonathan Swensen! Not yet 30 and recipient of both the Léonie Sonning talent prize and a host of international cello prizes. Matias Vestergård is among the most original composers of our time. And Sibelius' Symphony No. 2 is simply among the most magnificent symphonies ever. At the head of the whole glory is chief conductor Christoph Gedschold.

This afternoon's concert begins with music by one of the most original and exciting composers of our time, Danish Matias Vestergård. As  Artist in Residence  at the dynamic and hip chamber music festival  Festival & Friends  in Copenhagen, he composed the chamber work  Die Welt ohne Schwere in 2024. It has now become a full-fledged orchestral work. The music is inspired by a comic medieval motif, where knights carry flowers, cakes and fragrant oils as weapons.

American Grammy-winning soprano Angel Blue is at the top of the opera world. She sings regularly at The Metropolitan Opera in New York, at the San Francisco Opera and other major venues in the United States. She has won no less than two Grammy Awards, one for the Metropolitan Opera's recording of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess .
