Music in memory of what we have lost: From each musical extreme, Barber and Prokofiev set the loss to music. Barber's exquisite Adagio for Strings is an elegy for all that we have lost – both as individuals and as a society: Music brings us together in grief when we lose those who mean the most to us. The adagio purifies through its painful beauty.
