David Afkham is chief conductor of the Spanish National Orchestra and for several years was assistant conductor of the Gustav Mahler Chamber Orchestra. Christiane Karg has – as the only one ever – actually recorded the soprano solo from Mahler's fourth symphony with the composer himself at the piano! Mahler recorded the movement on a piano roll in 1905, and four years ago Karg sang that way with a composer who died 69 years before she was born. T...
