A program of rhythm, color, and contrast, this concert brings together the energy of jazz-infused Ravel, the striking modernity of Gabriela Ortiz, and the raw power of Shostakovich.

Inspired by the dynamic cultural life of Mexico City, Grammy award-winning composer Gabriela Ortiz’ Antrópolis is a thrilling contemporary piece that showcases the percussion section, with ASO Principal Timpanist Curt Armbruster taking a featured role.

Music can take our imagination to places we never thought.



In 1874 Russian composer, Modest Mussorgsky composed a piano suite in 10 movements after being inspired by Russian painter, Viktor Hartmann’s works.



We are now taking this concept and reversing the idea - we will listen to the music and let it inspire us to create something unique and beautiful.

In January of 2025, the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra will perform this piece, “Pictures at an Exhibition” and the artworks created by our students will be projected behind the ASO during their live performance at Maryland Hall.



The works will also travel around Anne Arundel county and be on public display leading up to the performance.
