From April 10 to May 3, 2025, the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco becomes the nucleus of a jazz explosion. Featuring the illustrious Kenny Barron with his quintet, solo, and with an orchestra, to the 'Give the Drummer Some' series showcasing the talents of Herlin Riley, David Garibaldi, and Marvin 'Smitty' Smith, jazz aficionados are in for a treat. This lineup crescendos with Cécile McLorin Salvant's soulful performances and invites all musicians to a free community jam session. Whether it's through masterclasses or family-friendly shows, this series of events promises an immersive dive into the world of jazz.

A rising vocal star and two-time JUNO Award winner, Montreal-based singer and songwriter Dominique Fils-Aimé performs two nights in the Joe Henderson Lab with music from her latest album, Our Roots Run Deep, which took the 2024 JUNO for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year. “What she does with her voice is absolutely incredible” (NPR).

Choro is Brazil’s earliest popular music, and like jazz, it reflects the melding of African rhythms with European classical music and other influences. Grupo Falso Baiano’s exploration of choro spans nearly 100 years, including everything from traditional to more contemporary versions and jazz-influenced reinterpretations. Join us for a lively program that traces the nuances of Brazilian choro music and its shared roots with American Jazz, showing how each evolved to create a national musical identity.
