Even though no “Brötzinger Saturday” is planned for 2025, the chamber orchestra will give a concert on the traditional date (last Saturday in September) in St. Martin’s Church, which is part of the city museum.

Under the direction of students from the conducting class of the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt am Main (Prof. Johannes Schlaefli and Christoph Altstaedt), works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gideon Klein and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy take us to the stars and to Swiss alpine pastures.

And they bid their audience farewell to the summer break with extremely optimistic sounds. Felix Mendelssohn's overture to "A Midsummer Night's Dream" is one of his greatest strokes of genius: the famous introductory wind chords immediately transport their listeners to a fairy kingdom painted by Shakespeare, in which Mendelssohn's shimmering and darting sounds create fascinating scenes of mysterious magic. Prokofiev's 2nd Violin Concerto marks his turn to a "new simplicity" that should above all be good-humored, energetic and objective, while still demanding the highest level of art from the soloist. And it reflects Prokofiev's (still) cosmopolitan attitude, which was fueled by his international concert tours at the time of writing. The final point is set by Ludwig van Beethoven – as is already the custom in Pforzheim – with another symphony: this time it is the fourth, which – although written at a time when Beethoven's deafness had already progressed – is described as extremely positive, "Greekly slim" and downright luminous. It demonstrates in an incomparable way how clearly, purely and lively a master like Beethoven is able to bring ever new opposing principles into dialogue with one another and, as a result, into harmony!

The monastery courtyard of the Reichenau-Mittelzell Minster is a wonderful, historic and acoustically excellent place for the annual "Island Classic" and is popular with locals, day-trippers and travelers alike. It was initiated - together with the municipality of Reichenau - by Douglas Bostock, who has lived on Reichenau for a long time.

At a time when the continent was celebrating with great verve a final indulgence in grandiose late romanticism, then the battle to turn away from tonal "harmonious sounds" was fought and finally the search for absolutely "new" sound systems was carried out, the English composers were above all taking time: time to reassure themselves through composition of the wealth of English folklore, the beauty and diversity of "their" landscape, the sublime greatness of cultural tradition and the power of English wit, time to find a musical-English identity, time to make England a characteristic musical nation again. And so there is a lot going on in this concert: Ralph Vaughan Williams ("Charterhouse Suite") and Gerald Finzi (Romance op. 13), both associated with the so-called English pastoral school, paint enchanting still lifes and transport their listeners to a wonderful English dream world. A few decades later, Benjamin Britten proved in his enchanting song cycle "Les Illuminations" that a true Brit can also be inspired by French poetry to play with very English tones. And the bird of paradise of English music, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, concludes by calling for people to enjoy life and live with (not only) English wit.

The British composer Gustav Holst worked as a music teacher at St. Paul's Girls' School in London. In his soundproof study he composed, among other things, the famous " St. Paul's Suite " - peppered with beautiful melodies, inspired by popular English folk songs ("Greensleeves") and exuberant dances. He was repeatedly disturbed by an old castle ghost, which to this day hides between the notes of his music.

Who doesn't know Janosch's touching story about the wonderful friendship between a bear and a tiger, in which the two find a solution for everything, dance a romantic nightlight waltz and celebrate the best day of their lives with violin din and magic! The melodies composed by Basti Bund especially for the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim transport the story with sunny charm straight into the hearts of the young listeners. The program is designed for primary school classes in grades 2 and children's groups (20-25 participants) from 7-9 years old.

The Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim proves once again in this concert how incredibly colorful pure string sound can be. And it presents a little surprise. Under the title "Helvetia" it invites you on a multifaceted and exciting tour through... yes, actually... the Swiss music history of the last 120 years. There are some great things to marvel at: First of all there is Peter Mieg, whose works have already been heard several times in Pforzheim programs. He is represented with his most internationally successful work, Toccata, Arioso and Gigue, which shows him to be a great veteran between rhythmic finesse and expansive sound. Othmar Schoeck is probably the most important song composer of the 20th century and so it is not surprising that the solo cello in his concerto op. 61 repeatedly revels in the most wonderful cantilenas: a real treat! Paul Juon, a descendant of Swiss immigrants who lived in Russia for a long time, only returned to his Swiss homeland in old age and thus gave it a late but excellent late romantic composer! Finally: Bartók - of course not Swiss! His stirring Divertimento Sz. 113 was commissioned by the Swiss super-sponsor Paul Sacher and is actually considered one of the most important string works of his time.

Every February 23rd, Pforzheim commemorates the destruction of the city at the end of the Second World War. At that time, war returned to the country whose government had unleashed it. To mark the 80th anniversary, the Badische Philharmonie Pforzheim and the Südwestdeutsche Kammerorchester Pforzheim will perform Benjamin Britten's most famous work, his "War Requiem".

In 2002, Friedemann Breuninger was appointed first concertmaster of the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada. He also plays as guest concertmaster in numerous orchestras in Spain, Italy and Belgium and has worked with conductors such as Emmanuel Krivine, Vladimir Ashkenasy and Philippe Herreweghe.

The Portuguese clarinetist Sérgio Fernandes Pires, born in 1995, is one of the most promising and artistically active clarinetists of his generation. As a soloist, he has performed with well-known orchestras such as the Musikkollegium Winterthur, the Basel Chamber Orchestra, Argovia Philharmonic, the Orchestra Filarmonicii de Stat Transilvania, the Bremen Philharmonic and the Silesian Chamber Orchestra. Since 2019, Sérgio Pires has been teaching at the Minho University in Braga (Portugal), since 2023 at the Basel University of Music (Switzerland), and since 2024 he has been principal clarinetist of the London Symphonic Orchestra (Great Britain).

Juri Tetzlaff, founding presenter of the children's channel KiKA and a permanent face of the channel ever since, puts millions of children to bed every night in the "KiKA Treehouse" together with the Sandman. Since 2001 he has designed and presented classical concerts for the whole family and was awarded the ECHO "Classical Music for Children" prize in 2014. He presents family concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic, the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim and the SWR Symphony Orchestra, among others.

Johannes Klumpp has been chief conductor and artistic director of the Folkwang Chamber Orchestra Essen since 2013. In addition, his busy concert schedule has taken him to renowned orchestras, including the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the Düsseldorf Symphony Orchestra, the Dresden Philharmonic, the WDR Funkhausorchester Cologne, the Stuttgart State Orchestra, the Russian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Potsdam Chamber Academy, the Gulbenkian Orchestra Lisbon and the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra.

Nicola Zesch completed her studies with distinction in Stuttgart with Prof. Conradin Brotbek and in Zurich with Prof. Thomas Grossenbacher and has made a name for herself as a national and international prizewinner. She is currently completing her concert examination in Hamburg with Prof. Sebastian Klinger. She received additional inspiration from well-known teachers such as Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Wolfgang Boettcher, Maria Kliegel, Claudio Bohorquez and Jan Vogler

Maria Solozobova-Neuenschwander was born in Moscow and now lives in Switzerland. After attending the Moscow music school "Gnessin" for highly gifted children, she completed her studies at the famous Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, with Prof. Zakhar Bron in Zurich and at the Basel Music Academy with Prof. Raphael Oleg "with distinction". While still a student, she was already working as first concertmaster with the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande. She is the winner of several renowned international music competitions.
