WE SPEAK is ECA’s annual celebration of spoken word poetry and storytelling. The evening integrates critically acclaimed artists alongside talented local youth, providing a platform for artists to respond to issues that impact themselves, their communities, and the world. Past WE SPEAK artists include celebrated poets Anastacia-Reneé, Shane Koyczan, Steve Connell, Ivan Coyote, Kealoha, and Chelsey Richardson.

Las Guaracheras is an all-women salsa sextet born in the city of Cali, Colombia in 2017. The ensemble’s cultural and artistic objective is to uplift female voices within Afro-Latin music and build a more inclusive, diverse, and respectful cultural space for all. Their music communicates joy, memory, and transformation. With vibraphone, percussion, bass, piano, and vocals, Las Guaracheras present an explosive show that provokes dancing and singing as well as reflection.

Jahari Stampley is a 24-year-old Chicago-born jazz pianist who, by the age of 18, was recognized and followed by many world-renowned musicians including Yebba Smith, Jill Scott, and Robert Glasper, among others. Jahari has toured with Stanley Clarke, featured on Derrick Hodge’s “Color of Noise” album, and performed in venues including Radio City Music Hall, Carnegie Hall, The Met Philadelphia, and more. Jahari is the winner of the 2023 Herbie Hancock Institute International Competition and the 2023 Chicagoan of the Year in Jazz award.

During Cascade Symphony Orchestra Chamber Music concerts, small ensembles of strings, winds and percussion perform music from three centuries, in an acoustically perfect setting, once in the Fall and once in the Spring. These more intimate concerts give audience members an opportunity to hear their favorite Cascade Symphony instrumentalists in a chamber music context.

Subjects range from social media to politics and a good deal of insider tea. The New York Times applauds Mizrahi’s performances noting, “he qualifies as a founding father of a genre that fuses performance, art, music and stand-up comedy.” 
 

Isaac Mizrahi has worked extensively in the entertainment industry as a performer, host, writer, designer and producer for over 30 years. With an annual residency at Cafe Carlyle in New York City, Isaac has taken his cabaret performances across the country and this past year made his Broadway debut in Chicago starring as Amos Hart.

Rossini’s exciting Overture to The Italian Girl in Algiers opens this concert, which concludes with Antonin Dvorak’s 4th Symphony. In between is music by 20th century British composer, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, and clarinet soloist, Anders Peterson, performing Crusell’s remarkable Clarinet Concerto No. 2.

GRAMMY Award-winning New Orleans-based The Dirty Dozen Brass Band has taken the traditional foundation of brass band music and incorporated it into a blend of genres including Bebop Jazz, Funk, and R&B/Soul. This unique sound, described by the band as a ‘musical gumbo,’ has allowed the Dirty Dozen to tour across 5 continents and more than 30 countries, and collaborate with a range of artists from Modest Mouse to Widespread Panic to Norah Jones.

Sphinx Virtuosi is a dynamic and inspiring self-conducted chamber orchestra committed to transforming lives through the power of diversity in the arts. Comprised of 18 accomplished Black and Latinx artists, a critical aim of the Sphinx Virtuosi is to evolve and transform the face of classical music through artistic excellence, pioneering programming, and impassioned community engagement. 

On February 27, Sphinx Virtuosi will present “American Form/s,” a musical tapestry depicting the many sounds of American classical music. Vibrant, varied, storied, and new, it takes audiences on a journey through classically-framed infusions of soul, bluegrass, jazz, blues, and elements of rag. Works range from re-imaginings of Scott Joplin’s joyous landscapes to the complex rhythms of Curtis Stewart and brilliant influences of immigrant composers like Teresa Carreño. Experience the intricate harmonies and world influences of Derrick Skye’s writing, as well as modern interpretations of soul-stirring spirituals and more in this carefully and collaboratively curated program.

Alash are masters of traditional Tuvan instruments as well as the ancient art of throat singing, a remarkable technique for singing multiple pitches at the same time. Believing that traditional music must constantly evolve, the musicians subtly infuse their songs with western elements, creating their own unique style that is fresh and new, yet true to their Tuvan musical heritage.

Rahzel is a three-time Grammy winner, the undisputed world Beat Box Champion and most famous beat boxer around the globe, and member of the world-famous ROOTS band. Since The Roots formation, Rahzel has gone on to collaborations with Bjork, Sean Paul, Erykah Badu, Ben Harper, Common, Everlast, and many other superstars in the music industry.

The production features Christopher Stowell’s Mendelssohn Dances and an OBT premiere by Nadja Saidakova. With classical elegance, captivating musical scores, and visionary creativity, Debuts promises an unforgettable evening of dance.

Matt Dusk is one of Canada’s most beloved male vocalists, forging a career in music that has resulted in fourteen critically-acclaimed studio albums and sold over one million albums world wide.   

Dusk pays tribute to one of his greatest inspirations, the legendary Tony Bennett. With over 70 years of entertaining audiences, Bennett has become an American icon, earning 19 Grammy Awards, two Emmy Awards, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Recording Academy 

“The Best Is Yet To Come” showcases Dusk’s remarkable vocal range and talent, bringing to life the essence of Bennett’s style and honouring his legacy with classic songs such as “I Left My Heart in San Francisco,” “The Way You Look Tonight,” and “The Good Life.” The show is a toe-tapping journey through Bennett’s most beloved hits, with Dusk putting his own unique spin on the timeless tunes.

International Guitar Night is the world’s premier touring guitar festival, each show bringing together the most interesting and innovative acoustic guitarists to exchange musical ideas in a public concert setting. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, this year’s IGN features all-time favorite Lulo Reinhardt alongside Alexandra Whittingham, Niwel Tsumbu, and Sonke Meinen.

Please join us for an engaging FREE pre-show talk featuring arts administrator and musician August Denhard, in conversation with International Guitar Night artists Lulo Reinhardt, Alexandra Whittingham, Niwel Tsumbu, and Sonke Meinen. This 45-minute discussion will offer a deep dive into each artists’ background, training, and how their cultures have shaped their style of playing.  

This intimate conversation promises to deepen your understanding and appreciation of guitar in all its forms and is the perfect precursor to our evening presentation of the 25th Anniversary of International Guitar Night at 7:30PM.

You are invited to the fourth annual Lunar New Year Edmonds (LNYE) event on Saturday, February 1. Hosted by Multicultural Association of Edmonds, our free community event will take place at Edmonds Center for the Arts, and has been designed to uplift the creativity, traditions, and expansiveness of the local Asian American community.

Festivities at ECA begin at 11 AM with Mak Fai Lion Dance, followed by demonstrations by Northwest Wushu Academy, and finishing with an energizing breakdance performance from renown Seattle-based hip hop crew, Massive Monkees.

Lunar New Year | Year of the Snake

The Rumba Kings defy expectations with their captivating live performances. Although their name suggests a focus on rumba, the band’s repertoire extends far beyond that genre. Their music draws from a wide range of influences, resulting in a diverse and enchanting experience.  

At the heart of their show is the Spanish guitar, which takes center stage alongside a string quartet and various other instruments, while guest vocalists make up a portion of the performance, the majority of the show is instrumental, appealing to audiences of all ages and demographics.

Appealing to the inner-teenager in each of us, “Napoleon Dynamite” is one of the most quoted movies of our time. “Napoleon Dynamite” makes us laugh and laugh hard over and over again. This unique evening, celebrating the film’s 20th anniversary, includes a full screening of the film followed by a lively, freewheeling discussion with fan-favorite cast members: Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Jon Gries (Uncle Rico) and Efren Ramirez (Pedro).

This enchanting ballet follows the humorous adventures of Franz and Swanilda as they uncover the secrets of the mysterious Dr. Coppélius and his life-like doll. Choreographed by Artistic Directors Oleg Gorboulev and Mara Vinson, and set to the enchanting score by Léo Delibes, this classical three-act ballet features exquisite sets and captivating choreography, bringing the whimsical world of Coppélia to life.
