Based on John O'Hara's 1940 epistolary novel of the same name (who also wrote the show's libretto), Richard Rodgers & Lorenz Hart's Pal Joey tells the story of a small time nightclub emcee...a slice of low-life Chicago in the 1940s set to some of the best songs of the decade, headed up by "Bewitched, Bothered And Bewildered" and "I Could Write A Book" and including such intriguing specialty numbers as "Zip".

Trumpeter, composer, and 2011 NEA Jazz Master Wynton Marsalis performs his live score to accompany a screening of director Dan Pritzker's 2010 silent Louis Armstrong biographical film Louis, joined by classical pianist Cecile Licad and an all-star 10-piece jazz ensemble in The Shedd Institute's intimate, vibrant Jaqua Concert Hall.

Michael Anderson continues his mission of setting all of Beethoven’s symphonies for chamber ensemble with microphilharmonic’s premier of his chamber arrangements of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 21 (1802) and his Symphony No. 7 in A major , Op. 92 (1812).

Multifaceted American jazz pianist and composer Emmet Cohen returns to Jaqua Concert Hall Wednesday April 9th. Cohen is one of his generation's pivotal figures in music and the related arts. Downbeat praised the "nimble touch, measured stride and warm harmonic vocabulary" he employs to communicate with other musicians and audiences at what he terms "the deepest level of humanity and individuality." He is the creator of “Live from Emmet’s Place” and the "Masters Legacy Series".

The Shedd Institute’s E. Y. Harburg Academy for Musical Theatre presents Avalon", a celbration of the lyricist B. G. "Buddy" De Sylva (1895-1950). Working in the 1920s and '30s with composers including Al Jolson, George Gershwin, Jerome Kern, Louis Silvers, Joseph Meyer, and lyricists Ira Gershwin and Lew Brown, De Sylva wrote a host of Songbook classics including "Avalon", "April Showers", "Button Up Your Overcoat", "You're The Cream In My Coffee", "Look For The Silver Lining", "I'll Build A Stairway To Paradise", "Somebody Loves Me", "If You Knew Susie", and more!

Three-time Latin Grammy nominee Jovino Santos Neto, a master pianist, composer and educator, is one of the most distinguished Brazilian musicians working today.

Guitarist Randy Napoleon cut his teeth in the clubs of Detroit and throughout the Midwest in the mid-nineties, only realizing after his move to New York how much his musical identity and values were forged by that scene. The jazz masters that still populate the region swing with uncompromising commitment, deeply steeped in the Blues and the language of Bebop. For this trio performance Randy pays tribute to 3 of the greatest of the mid-century "Rust Belt" masters, all of whom helped define the hardbop guitar sound: Wes Montgomery, Grant Green and Kenny Burrell.

Tony Furtando is an evocative and soulful singer, a wide-ranging songwriter and a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist adept on banjo, cello-banjo, slide guitar and baritone ukulele who mixes and matches sounds and styles with the flair of a master chef (he’s also an accomplished sculptor, but that’s another story). All of the music of America is in Tony’s music.
