State Opera South Australia

State Opera South Australia was established in 1976 by an Act of Parliament building a storied reputation for presenting world-class opera in South Australia, across the nation and internationally. Under the Leadership of Artistic Director Dane Lam and Executive Director Mark Taylor, the company is making its mark again on the world stage including embracing its geography in momentous Asia Pacific Region. This is reflected in the first ever opera co-production between Australia and China, the opening of The Magic Flute in the Beijing Music Festival in October 2026, and two productions with Opera Hong Kong and New Zealand Opera. Other visionary co-productions includesuch companies as San Francisco Opera, Canadian Opera Company, Scottish Opera, Irish National Opera and Opera Hong Kong, and a new Missy Mizzoli commission opening the Edinburgh International Festival this year.
