VMA’s Theatrical Showcase

Rhythm of Dance is the annual production of Hengda Dance Academy and the American Asian Performing Arts Theatre. The three-day event features five performances: two shows of Rhythm of Dance 2025, one show of Little Lotus 2025 – Young Talent Showcase, one show of Rhythm of Golden Autumn 2025 – Adult Dance Gala, and one show of Rising Star 2025 – Gold Award Gala. In the second part, Liszt’s Spanish Rhapsody, Granados’s “Love and Death”, Babajanyan – Nocturne and Stravinsky’s Petrushka.Concert pianist Andrey Gugnin is rapidly gaining international acclaim as a passionately virtuosic performer, who possesses an “extraordinarily versatile and agile technique, which serves an often inspired musical imagination” (Gramophone). One of his recent achievements is winning the prestigious 12th International German Piano Award in 2023. In 2024, Andrey Gugnin won first place at the Classic Piano International Competition in Dubai, claiming the grand prize with a performance of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 3. In 2020, the BBC Music Magazine Awards named Gugnin the winner of the Instrumental Award for his recording Shostakovich: 24 Preludes – Piano Sonatas 1 & 2 (Hyperion). Since winning the prestigious Sydney International Piano Competition in 2016, Gugnin has gone from strength to strength in concerts and recordings which exhibit his impassioned interpretations.

The celebration of Frank Chopp’s life and legacy will be held on June 1 from 2-5:30 pm at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue (11100 NE 6th St, Bellevue). The program features stories about strategies and practices Frank used as a community organizer, political leader, and legislator. This is the first and only concert of an outstanding world-famous pianist. Konstantin Khachikyan is a laureate of international pianist competitions, a prize-winner of the International Rachmaninov Competition and a winner of the golden branch of the Venice Competition. The concert program will include works by Rachmaninov, Schumann, Lyapunov, Liszt and Khachaturian. We recommend everyone to visit this magical performance.

The play “Two for the Seesaw” is based on the world-renowned play by William Gibson. Two for the Seesaw is a touching and sad love story about two lonely people who grasp onto a chance encounter like a drowning person clutching at a straw. They are so different from each other that one can’t help but wonder: can these two stay together despite the complicated past experiences they’ve had in relationships?

In the 2024/2025 concert season, Polina makes her debuts in Australia, Singapore, and Brazil and comes back to the United States with a recital tour along with a tour with her colleague Maxim Vengerov. She also has a series of her debuts with new recitals at festivals and at Konzerthaus in Austria, takes part in a big project dedicated to 5 Prokofiev concertos in Germany in Theater Altenburg Gera, and plays concerts in Italy, Belgium, and Germany.

Theatre33 is thrilled to showcase the 2024 Community Family Play “The Little Humpbacked Horse,” a magical and kind tale based on the story by Peter Yershov. Over 40 families will tell the story of Ivan, who is aided by his sidekick, the humpbacked horse. The community member performers ages 4 years old and up will tell this classical tale on October 12 and 13th, 2024 at the Meydenbauer Center. The tale is presented in Russian without English subtitles. However, the language of theatre is action – come and enjoy this visual feast!

Their performance, Song of the Land, will introduce the rich history and culture of Taiwan with their excellent juggling and acrobats, along with the most popular Taiwanese songs in different time period.
