The concert is centered on Beethoven's Piano Trio "The Archduke". It is surrounded by the sparkling, grand Bach E major sonata for harpsichord and violin, which is a trio sonata where the piano has two voices and is thus a worthy portal to Beethoven's great manifesto of a trio.

These are set against Sally Beamish's fourth string quartet from 2019, which was directly inspired by Robert Schumann's first string quartet, and Robert and Clara's relationship.
