The Riverside Philharmonic, originally known as the Riverside Symphony, is a cherished institution in the Inland Southern California region, dedicated to fostering the enjoyment and appreciation of symphonic music among the diverse communities it serves. With a rich history dating back to its inception in 1959, the Philharmonic has been an integral part of the region's cultural landscape for over six decades. === History === The Riverside Philharmonic marked its beginning with a debut concert on April 7, 1959, at Ramona High School, which was met with resounding success. Over the years, the orchestra has garnered acclaim for its dynamic performances of both classical masterworks and contemporary compositions. Its reputation for outstanding musical delivery has earned it the title of "Best orchestra in Southern California" from critics. The Philharmonic's home base is the state-of-the-art concert hall at the Coil School for the Arts in downtown Riverside, though its presence extends throughout the region, with performances in venues such as the Ramona Bowl, Lake Elsinore, Fallbrook, Rancho Cucamonga, and Temecula. The orchestra also takes pride in its annual Concert for Heroes at Riverside’s National Cemetery, commemorating Independence Day. === Mission and Community Engagement === The Riverside Philharmonic's mission extends beyond performance; it aims to challenge, educate, enrich, and entertain audiences of all ages. Through its innovative programs, the orchestra seeks to engage with the community and instill a lasting appreciation for the arts. === Artistic Leadership === Under the baton of Music Director Tomasz Golka since 2010, the Philharmonic has continued to flourish. Golka, an acclaimed conductor and composer, has led orchestras across the Americas and Europe and collaborated with world-renowned soloists. His tenure with the Riverside Philharmonic has been highlighted by a 10th-anniversary virtual concert and numerous other achievements. === Musicians and Staff === The Riverside Philharmonic is composed of a talented roster of musicians, many of whom are also prominent performers in film, television, and soundtracks. The orchestra's tenured musicians include Concertmaster Eugene Sam Fischer and principal players across the strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion sections. The executive committee, board of directors, and dedicated staff, including Executive Director Becky Whatley, work tirelessly to support the Philharmonic's artistic and community missions. === Non-Profit Status === As a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the Riverside Philharmonic relies on the generosity of donors, company sponsorships, and the efforts of volunteers to sustain its operations and outreach programs. Contributions and support from the community play a crucial role in the continuation of the Philharmonic's legacy. The Riverside Philharmonic stands as a beacon of musical excellence and community engagement, proudly serving as Riverside's own and bringing the power of symphonic music to the heart of Southern California.
