Cinco de Mayo served as an inspirational springboard for this unique concert celebrating both Spanish and Mexican music. The concert opens with José Pablo Moncayo’s Huapango, a lively and joyful tribute to the popular music of the Mexican state of Veracruz. Manuel de Falla’s gorgeously orchestrated Nights in the Gardens of Spain featuring the debut of young Mexican pianist Rachid Bernal will immerse us in Spanish Impressionism. Silvestre Revueltas is one of the giants among Mexican composers, and I am very excited to introduce to you his suite from the movie La Noche de Los Mayas, featuring a multimedia presentation of Mayan art.

A truly unique concert designed to lift your spirits and bring my 30th anniversary celebration to a rousing and joyful finale.

The world-famous Mariachi Los Camperos, led by Jesus “Chuy” Guzman, invites you to an evening celebrating the Golden Era of Mariachi music with composers and singers such as Agustin Lara, Maria Grever, Javier Solis and Manuel M. Ponce to more contemporary musicians including Juan Gabriel and Vicente Fernandez. For almost 75 years, Mariachi Los Camperos have toured the world, playing renowned venues such as the Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and the Getty Center. The three-time Grammy-award winning ensemble perform skillfully arranged versions of classic mariachi melodies blended with regional styles of traditional music resulting in a sound sure to delight all your senses.

This mariachi ensemble was originally formed in the early 1960s, and has performed at Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall and the Kennedy Center.  Join us for an exciting evening at the Civic Center Music Hall with OKC’s Maestro, Alexander Mickelthwate, the orchestra, and Mariachi Los Camperos.
