Barrington Stage Company (BSC) is a not-for-profit professional theatre company located in the Berkshires, Massachusetts, co-founded by Artistic Director Julianne Boyd in 1995. With a mission to produce compelling work, develop new plays and musicals, and engage the community with inclusive educational outreach programs, BSC has established itself as a leading arts venue in Berkshire County, attracting over 60,000 patrons annually. Initially operating from rented space at the Consolati Performing Arts Center, BSC moved to a renovated 1912 vaudeville theatre in downtown Pittsfield in 2006, further expanding its campus with additional facilities for performances, administration, and production. BSC has gained national recognition for its superior-quality productions and comprehensive educational programming. Notable for its commitment to new work, BSC has produced 41 new works since its inception, with several moving on to New York and major regional theatres. The company has been instrumental in the economic revitalization of downtown Pittsfield, contributing to the creative economy and engaging deeply with the community through initiatives like Black Voices Matter and the Celebration of Black Voices festival. BSC's educational programs aim to make theatre accessible to all, fostering a community of artists, staff, students, and educators. The company's achievements include numerous awards, such as sweeping the first annual Berkshire Theatre Awards in 2016 and winning the BroadwayWorld Berkshires Best Theatre Company of the Decade Award in 2020.
