Scott Yoo hosts an evening of culinary and musical adventures at the beautiful Pavilion at Cypress Ridge in Arroyo Grande.  Join Scott and the artists for a tour behind Mozart's Piano Trio and Dohnanyi's Piano Quintet.  Throughout the evening you will learn about the composers' lives and histories, their musical influences, and gain a deeper understanding of the works in advance of Sunday's chamber concert.  Then after the presentation, enjoy a three-course dinner complete with Central Coast wines.

In this informal, one-hour event, you will learn about Shostakovich and his compositional style, the context surrounding this work, and gain a deeper understanding of the piece in advance of Sunday's chamber concert.

Festival Mozaic Artist-in-Residence John Novacek will lead this free master class for local piano students.  Master classes are great opportunities for young musicians.  Each performer will play a selection of a piece for Mr. Novacek.  After each performance, he will work with the student for 20-30 minutes offering constructive feedback: suggestions on musical ideas, practice techniques, and more.  These classes are always very interesting and informative for musicians and non-musicians alike!

Part of ARTober is a special activation in Mission Plaza called Piano in the Plaza! Mission Plaza in downtown SLO will host an upright piano painted by local artist Missy Reitner-Cameron.  Community members are invited to sit and play the piano anytime, and professional pianists have been invited to play intermittently throughout October.

After a five-year hiatus, Festival Mozaic is proud to return to Mission San Miguel Arcángel for an afternoon showcasing chamber music for piano and strings. Pianists Stewart Goodyear and John Novacek will lead works by Fauré and Brahms. Opening the program is a unique piece by American composer Henry Cowell which features Iranian rhythms in the drum.

Join the Festival musicians for this annual concert presenting Mozart and more in our historic Mission San Luis Obispo de Tolosa. The program includes Mozart's D major viola quintet, Ginastera's Impresiones de la Puna for flute and strings, and Dvorák's only string sextet. The winds also get a chance to shine in Poulenc's sonata for clarinet and bassoon.

This program celebrates the quintet in all of its forms. Pianist Stewart Goodyear joins forces with a string quartet for Hummel’s piano quintet; a string trio joins harp and flute for Francaix’s quintet; and we close with Beethoven’s only piece originally conceived for a string quintet. Also on the program is a rhythmic and lyrical duet for violin and soprano by Villa-Lobos.

After appearing on the Festival Mozaic & SLO Brew Rock Late Night Series in 2022, Americana singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Rachel Baiman returns to Festival Mozaic to headline this show at See Canyon Fruit Ranch!  Rachel was raised in Chicago and has been recording and touring internationally with 10 String Symphony, Winnipeg folk band Oh My Darling, and Kacey Musgraves. With her 2017 debut Shame, Rachel emerged as a fearless voice of the American female experience. On her new full-length album Cycles, she has found a grittier musical medium for her signature unabashed and defiant songwriting, employing a majority-female team.

To celebrate the opening of the 2023 Summer Music Festival Scott Yoo and the Festival musicians will join forces with the Movement Arts Collective for a new setting of Copland's Appalachian Spring, choreographed by Ryan Lawrence. Also on the program are Beethoven’s Spring sonata for violin and piano, a duet for violin and viola by Czech composer Martinu, and a work for voice and strings by Korean-American composer and Scott Yoo’s professor at Harvard, Earl Kim.

Enjoy a unique musical experience signature to Festival Mozaic right in the heart of downtown Santa Barbara!  Scott Yoo, Music Director of Festival Mozaic and Host of Now Hear This on PBS, presents a free chamber music event featuring Brahms' Piano Quartet in C minor.  You will be treated to a "Notable Encounter," Scott's hybrid lecture/performance format that takes the audience behind the music.  You will learn about the history of the piece, hear some stories about Brahms and what was happening in his life at the time, and gain some insight into the musical elements featured in the piece.  After this 15-20 minute presentation, Scott and the group will perform the entire piece.

Trio Barclay (comprised of violinist Dennis Kim, cellist Jonah Kim, and pianist Sean Kennard) is an ensemble of big musical personalities who have joined together to create dynamic and exciting musical experiences. The ensemble made its stellar debut at Irvine’s Barclay Theatre in June 2021 and is the first Ensemble-in-Residence in the Barclay’s 30-year history.

Burt Hara, Associate Principal Clarinetist with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, will lead this free master class for local musicians and students.
