The Marcus Performing Arts Center (MPAC), a mission-based non-profit organization, stands as a beacon of cultural and artistic excellence in downtown Milwaukee. Established over 50 years ago, MPAC has been a pivotal force in bringing high-quality performing arts to Southeastern Wisconsin, attracting more than 200,000 patrons annually. The center is renowned for presenting a diverse array of performances, including Tony Award-winning Broadway shows, exceptional music, dance, and theatre events from both local and international artists, as well as hosting a variety of exciting community events and celebrations. MPAC is not only a venue for world-class performances but also a place of education and engagement, offering educational experiences for younger audiences and family nights that make the arts accessible to all ages. The center's commitment to the community extends to hosting private events such as weddings and meetings, making it a versatile space that serves multiple purposes. The center is the proud home of four major resident companies: Black Arts MKE, First Stage, The Florentine Opera, and the Milwaukee Ballet, further cementing its role as a cornerstone of the Milwaukee Theatre District. Additionally, MPAC honors those who have served the country by operating as a dedicated War Memorial facility. MPAC's dedication to inclusivity and diversity is reflected in its Racial Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Commitment, aiming to create a more racially representative and equitable community within the arts. The center's mission is to act as an energizing force that connects the community to the world through collaboration, innovation, social engagement, and the transformative power of live performing arts. With a vision to be the region's world-class gathering place for all, MPAC has outlined strategic pillars focusing on racial equity and inclusion, guest experience, arts participation, capability and asset development, and employee experience. The leadership team at MPAC, including President & CEO Kevin Giglinto and other vice presidents, is dedicated to providing unforgettable experiences for the community. The center encourages community involvement through volunteer and employment opportunities, inviting individuals to contribute to the vibrant arts scene. MPAC's history dates back to 1945 when plans for a war memorial that would accommodate art, music, drama, public discussion, and social assembly began to take shape in Milwaukee. Over the years, the center has hosted music legends such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, and Johnny Cash. The building itself is a testament to modernist architecture, designed by the renowned Harry Weese, known for his work on The Field Museum and Union Station. To learn more about MPAC's mission-driven work and its impact on the arts and culture in Milwaukee, one can read the annual report, which highlights the center's achievements and initiatives from the previous season. The Marcus Performing Arts Center continues to thrive as a hub for creativity and community, eagerly anticipating the memories yet to be made in the years to come.
