Performed by ballet companies across the globe, this exciting Sacramento Premiere of Pink’s captivating choreography is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end.

Innovations is a remarkable bill of in-demand works including Val Caniparoli’s Ibsen’s House ballet that weaves a story around five female characters extracted from Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen’s plays and a world premiere from Louisville Ballet’s resident choreographer Andrea Schermoly who is known for innovative reimagining of classic works including Martha Graham’s Appalachian Spring and her new twist on Romeo & Juliet for Royal New Zealand Ballet. SacBallet continues its time honored connection with the George Balanchine Trust and will present a special surprise work to be announced.

Visions returns for a second year with new commissions and company premieres from the some of the most forward-leaning and inspirational choreographers today. We present a world premiere from Marika Brussel, known for visually stunning contemporary works, and company premieres, State of Matter by Ihsan Rustem and Carry Me Anew, created by fan and dancer favorite, Ma Cong, who is Richmond Ballet’s associate artistic director and internationally lauded choreographer.

Bring everyone on your list to SacBallet’s breathtaking, beloved, annual holiday tradition set to Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker.” This year SacBallet presents its newest staged production with choreography by Sacramento hometown dancers Nicole Haskins, Colby Damon and Julia Feldman. Emergence series will feature Igor Stravinsky and choreography by George Balanchine presenting the influential Agon plus new works by critically acclaimed choreographers Caili Quan, Stephanie Martinez and Adam Hougland, who is past Resident Choreographer at Louisville Ballet.

Visions will showcase Penny Saunders’ innovative Ghost Light, a newly commissioned work by Jermaine Spivey and Extremely Close, a mesmerizing emotionally beautiful work by Alejandro Cerrudo. Stagecraft and production will include fascinating full-motion fast-moving vertical walls and dramatically lit white feathers for Extremely Close.

Tchaikovsky’s iconic Swan Lake will be everything you expect from this incomparable performance plus more mystery, athleticism and majesty. SacBallet’s Swan Lake will be created by Artistic Director Anthony Krutzkamp who has performed the work across the US and around the world!

Cinderella by Paul Vasterling is set to Sergei Prokofiev’s magical score and its unique 18th-century costume designs and stunning sets will transport fans of every age on a majestic, awesome and hilarious thrill ride. Everyone is invited to attend performances dressed as their favorite Cinderella character. Special programs and costumed meetups are planned for our matinees. Tickets on sale August 1, 2023.

SacBallet continues its treasured, annual holiday celebration set to Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker. This year SacBallet continues its new tradition to feature choreography by Sacramento hometown dancers Nicole Haskins, Colby Damon and Julia Feldman.

Beer & Ballet kicks off SacBallet’s Season 68, with the support of Sacramento’s popular Bike Dog Brewery. This season-opening show features new works from SacBallet’s own dancer-choreographers. With every ticket purchase, attendees receive one draft beer or glass of wine. Beverage purchases and food carts at the event help fundraise for SacBallet.

We move fearlessly forward with a contemporary, neoclassical and bracing program. This is an unrivaled opportunity to experience all that SacBallet can do. We will premiere the much anticipated work, Soar. Jennifer Archibald, Resident Choreographer for Cincinnati Ballet, was a Choreographic Fellow for Alvin Ailey’s New Directions Choreography Lab. Her work, Soar, pushes contemporary movement to its most beautiful limits. Sacramento Ballet’s own national choreographer in the making, Julia Feldman creates Hearts her first mainstage piece following Nutcracker 2021 for the company. And we gift a long-awaited return of George Balanchine’s classical masterwork, Allegro Brillante.  “It contains everything I know about the classical ballet in 13 minutes.” ~George Balanchine

Catalyst

Internationally acclaimed choreographer Val Caniparoli challenges classical technique and speed with humor and his unique style in company premiere of Tutto Eccetto Il Lavandino (everything but the kitchen sink). Two Sacramento Ballet alumni add works to our program. Isaac Bates-Vinueza further evolves his piece Rumor from its crowd-pleasing premiere at Beer & Ballet and Nicole Haskins premieres Groundless Shift on The Sofia stage. Nicole has graced Oregon Ballet Theatre’s Choreography XX, the New York Choreographic Institute, and now serves as Ballet Idaho's Trainee Division Director.
