The Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) is a renowned multi-arts center situated in Brooklyn, New York. With a history spanning over 150 years, BAM has established itself as a haven for adventurous artists, audiences, and innovative ideas, serving both the global and local communities. BAM's diverse programming includes theater, dance, music, opera, film, and various other artistic endeavors, providing a platform for both emerging talents and established modern masters. BAM's leadership is spearheaded by Gina Duncan, who serves as the President. Duncan, with a rich background in film, TV, and theater production, returned to BAM after a stint as the Producing Director at Sundance Institute. She had previously held the position of Vice President of BAM’s Film & Strategic Programming. Coco Killingsworth, as the vice president of creative social impact and interim head of virtual programming, brings her expertise in education, community outreach, and programming to the institution. Amy Cassello, with a history in arts administration, serves as the Interim Artistic Director, having joined BAM in 2012 and contributing significantly to the Next Wave Festival and other artistic endeavors. The governance of BAM is overseen by a Board of Trustees, comprising a diverse group of leaders from New York City's corporate, civic, cultural, and educational sectors. This board plays a critical role in guiding the institution's mission and ensuring its continued success and relevance. BAM also houses the BAM Hamm Archives Center, which is a treasure trove of the institution's history, containing materials that date back to its inception, such as 19th-century playbills and videos of significant artistic moments. The archives are a vital resource for research and education, chronicling the rich tapestry of cultural history that BAM represents. Additionally, the Shelby White & Leon Levy BAM Digital Archive offers a curated collection of highlights from BAM's past, including Next Wave shows, DanceAfrica performances, and Artist Talks. The organization maintains a strong community presence, with initiatives to make its programs accessible to seniors and veterans, including offering free and discounted tickets. BAM's commitment to inclusivity and community engagement is evident in these efforts. BAM also partners with Greenlight Bookstore to provide a range of merchandise, including books and clothing, which can be purchased at kiosks located in the lobby of the Peter Jay Sharp Building and the Harvey Theater during mainstage performances, or online at any time. In terms of organizational transparency, BAM provides access to its house and ticket policies, privacy policy, and financial documents, including 990 forms for both BAM and the BAM Endowment Trust, as well as annual reports and audited financial statements, all of which are available to the public.
