Together, we will perform Giacomo Puccini‘s stunning Messa di Gloria, a masterpiece often regarded as his farewell to sacred music. In our solo set, the Peninsula Women’s Chorus will present the world premiere of the newly commissioned work written by Theresa Wong, PWC’s composer-in-residence.

Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute, Michael Bussewitz-Quarm’s “Nigra Sum,” F. Mendelssohn’s “Lift Thine Eyes,” and an exhilarating excerpt from PWC’s composer-in-residence, Theresa Wong’s newly commissioned work. The idea for the New Music for Treble Voices Festival (NMFTV) came about in 2008 with the realization that the Bay Area is home to several acclaimed treble choirs, all national and international leaders in commissioning and performing new music. Founding groups were Volti, a professional choir dedicated to American contemporary music, Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir, both conducted by Robert Geary, and the Peninsula Women’s Chorus (PWC), conducted by Dr. Martín Benvenuto.=

11th New Music for Treble Voices Festival

Our spring concerts will showcase Giovanni Pergolesi’s heart-wrenchingly beautiful Stabat Mater, an early 18th-century poignant portrayal of a mother’s grief. This classic will be complemented by the world premieres of two new works for PWC: Composer-in-Residence Amy X Neuburg’s “What Place is This?” exploring our feelings about home and place, and an excerpt from our 2026 Composer-in-Residence Freida Abtan’s opera-in-progress, reimagining the Orpheus myth and his overwhelming grief that threatens the living world
