Harmony and Hope: A Journey Through the Peninsula Women's Chorus Events

Our spring concerts will showcase Giovanni Pergolesi’s heart-wrenchingly beautiful Stabat Mater, an early 18th-century poignant portrayal of a mother’s grief. This classic will be complemented by the world premieres of two new works for PWC: Composer-in-Residence Amy X Neuburg’s “What Place is This?” exploring our feelings about home and place, and an excerpt from our 2026 Composer-in-Residence Freida Abtan’s opera-in-progress, reimagining the Orpheus myth and his overwhelming grief that threatens the living world

The idea for the New Music for Treble Voices Festival (NMFTV) came about in 2008 with the realization that the Bay Area is home to several acclaimed treble choirs, all national and international leaders in commissioning and performing new music. Founding groups were Volti, a professional choir dedicated to American contemporary music, Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir, both conducted by Robert Geary, and the Peninsula Women’s Chorus (PWC), conducted by Dr. Martín Benvenuto.=

PWC’s winter concert fuels the flame of hope with a rich selection of international holiday songs celebrating Kwanzaa, Christmas, and Noche Buena, interwoven with songs of light, faith, and survival. Join us in cultivating hope through works that connect us to traditions, practices, histories, and wisdom, revealing the ever-present possibilities around us.Experience the hope through PWC classics such as the vocal arrangement of “New World Symphony” from Song of Survival, J.S. WongThis spring, the Peninsula Women’s Chorus will join the Golden Gate Men’s Chorus in an exciting collaboration! Together, we will perform Giacomo Puccini‘s stunning Messa di Gloria, a masterpiece often regarded as his farewell to sacred music. In our solo set, the Peninsula Women’s Chorus will present the world premiere of the newly commissioned work written by Theresa Wong, PWC’s composer-in-residence.

Our third annual PWC at the Park free concert will feature a selection from our season, including an a cappella arrangement of W.A. Mozart’s Overture to The Magic Flute, Michael Bussewitz-Quarm’s “Nigra Sum,” F. Mendelssohn’s “Lift Thine Eyes,” and an exhilarating excerpt from PWC’s composer-in-residence, Theresa Wong’s newly commissioned work. Come enjoy an afternoon of fabulous music in nature that will leave you uplifted and inspired. Children are welcome!

Peninsula Women’s Chorus and Peninsula Girls Chorus are on our way to Spain! Come for an evening of incredible music and send us off with good wishes for a wonderful tour. Each choir will perform a set of music chosen for our travels, and the combined choir will share some of the music we’ve prepared to perform at the Festival for Women’s and Treble Voices. This festival will feature youth and women’s choirs from Spain and the United States, under the direction of Dr. Andrea Ramsey and Spanish composer Ms. Eva Ugalde
