The season kicks off on September 21, 2024, with an electrifying performance by cellist Zuill Bailey and pianist Awadagin Pratt. Highlighting works by Beethoven, Arvo Pärt, Coleridge-Taylor, and Brahms' Cello Sonata No. 1, this opening night promises a dazzling start. On April 5, 2025, the stage will be graced by the principal clarinetist of the New York Philharmonic, Anthony McGill, alongside pianist Gloria Chien and cellist Sterling Elliott, performing Brahms' Clarinet Trio. The season culminates with the Claremont Trio on May 17, 2025, celebrating their 25th anniversary with a rendition of Brahms' Trio in C major.

The celebrated Balourdet Quartet produces both emotionally intense and intimate moments on international stages. Its unique closeness and willingness to take creative risks earned it the 2024 Avery Fisher Career Grant, as well as Chamber Music America’s 2024 Cleveland Quartet Award. With more than 70 concerts per season, recent highlights include the Balourdet’s debuts at Carnegie and Wigmore Halls, and new string quartets by composers Karim Al-Zand and Paul Novak through grants from Chamber Music America (2021) and the Barlow Foundation (2023). They are currently the Graduate Quartet in Residence at the prestigious Jacobs School of Music at Indiana University and are recent graduates of the New England Conservatory’s Professional String Quartet Program.

Celebrated American soprano Karen Slack’s dynamic opera and recital performances combined with her passionate advocacy for racial justice and women composers make her a sought-after artist on many fronts. For her performance at Chamber Music Detroit, Slack performs Of Thee I Sing! Songs of Love and Justice, her incredibly moving program conceived during the turmoil in the summer of 2020, when the country was forced into a long-overdue racial awakening. After witnessing the murder of George Floyd on national television – as many did while confined to their homes during the onset of the pandemic – Slack felt it necessary to create a program focusing on the healing powers of justice and love. The program will include material from composers Clayton White, Undine Smith Moore, Ricky Ian Gordon, Scott Gendel, H. Leslie Adams, Jake Heggie, and Adolphus Hailstork.
